MEN'S RAIL

Our stock of men's vintage clothing has increased vastly over the last couple of weeks and we now have a large number of shirts, jackets, coats and suits (including two from Savile Row). The rather fetching dressing gown would be an ideal Father's day gift for the man in your life but its probably better to see what you get for Mother's day first.

VOLUNTEERS

This photograph shows our two latest volunteers, Chantelle and Sue , who spent their first morning in the shop yesterday. They seemed to really enjoy themselves and had some new and refreshing ideas for the shop and, as you can see, loved trying all the amazing outfits.

A FEW QUOTES ABOUT VINTAGE VISION FAYRE

Thought you might like to read a few quotes we had about our fantastic fayre on
13th March, 2011.

We thought it was a delightful day, lovely atmosphere and done well.

It was great, the kids really seemed to enjoy the craft/dressing up section too.

It certainly was a great day - the models had a fantastic time and are already signing up for the next event.

LOVED IT, BRILLIANT, FANTASTICALLY WELL ORGANISED !!!! Loved the fashion show, music and the well run cafe, it had a great atmosphere and most importantly some great vintage clothes.

I had the time of my life on Sunday and made money too - can't be bad.

Hi just wanted to say how much we enjoyed yesterday, it was brilliant and so many people said what a nice atmosphere it was. Thanks for making it happen and all your hard work.

Had a fab little browse, picked up a lovely little bag too.

Had a fab time at the Vintage Fair today. Really well done, it was great. When's the next one?

Had a fantastic day at the Vintage Fayre at Abergavenny on Sunday. It was busy all day. I had two commission enquiries, sold a lot and a lady wants me to supply her shop in Bath ! I had loads of positive feedback which was lovely to hear because I haven't been doing it for long so it was a great confidence booster !!!

THE ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME

A TASTE OF WHAT IS IN THE HALL

, originally uploaded by Vintage Vision.

The entrance to Vintage Vision Fayre housed a projector showing vintage fashion and gave a taste of what is available in the hall.

BREAK TIME

, originally uploaded by Vintage Vision.

Our pretty volunteer models did manage to squeeze in the odd cup of tea before strutting their stuff on the catwalk - no cake of course - they probably had a crispbread last week! The lady in the background trying on the green dress eventually bought it from my stall - Result !
By the way - the price tag is supposed to be on the red dress - the model didn't leave home in a hurry.

MODELS FROM GYPT

SAVILE ROW SUITS

007, originally uploaded by Vintage Vision.

We have two Savile Row mens suites available in Vintage Vision which are expertly made with fantastic attention to detail.
Most single-breasted suits have two or three buttons, and one or four are unusual. It is rare to find a suit with more than four buttons although zoot suits can have as many as six due to their longer length.
Suit trousers are always made of the same material as the jacket. Even from the 1910s to 1920 wearing a suit jacket with odd trousers was an alternative to a full suit.
Trouser widths have varied considerably throughout the decade with trousers in the 20s having straight, wide legs, the 50s and 60s having a more slim look and the 70s offering a wide variety of styles of trousers including flared, bell-bottomed and the more traditional tapered trousers.
A good quality suit , ie. Savile Row, would have a small loop behind the button hole to hold the stem of the flower and functional cuff buttons would be found on high-end or bespoke suits and this feature is called a Surgeon's cuff.
