LOCATION, LOCATION

Me and my dad in 1950 something, wearing a dress made of the same material as the pretty lemon one in this blog. Mine was in pale blue and probably belonged to two cousins and a sister before it came to me. Still I thought I was the bees knees in it! My fringe was obviously cut by my mother who had absolutely no hairdressing skills whatsoever but at least, this time, it was fairly straight.

LEMON PARTY DRESS

In lemon with white floral detail this pretty dress has three layers of underskirt, one being net. It is size 10/12 and would make a great 50s party dress.

PLACES OF INTEREST

I love these vintage souvenir scarves. They remind us of a time when travel became possible for the masses, when it was new and exciting. Dating from the 50s and 60s we have scarves from several destinations including Rome, Greece and Holland.

DARK GREEN DRESS

Pretty. sophisticated and gorgeous are just three words that describe this beautiful dark green dress with its unusual neckline and bow detail. The close-up picture reveals the fantastic material this dress is made of. Unfortunately the wine is not part of the sale but I am sure anyone who wears this will be showered with gifts anyway.

KNITTED HARMONY

Oh what a jolly picture of a 70s family all ready for a country jaunt in matching tank-tops and scarves. I believe they are all looking one way because the wool seller is on the opposite side.

DON'T YOU JUST HATE CHRISTMAS

The captions for this picture could include:

Little girl is thinking "Something knitted again I bet"
or standing woman thinking "How come I got the one with the hood".
The possibilities are endless - any ideas ?

CLOTHES SWAP EVENING AND FASHION SHOW

Just to remind you about two exciting events we are organising in the future at
Vintage Vision.

Firstly our Clothes Swap party:
This is on Wednesday, August 25th, in the shop from 7-9 pm. To take part in this you need to buy a ticket (£5 each from the shop) and bring along two items of good quality clothing (NOT VINTAGE) that you don't love any more. In exchange we will give you a glass of wine and nibbles and two vouchers. Spend the next few hours browsing the racks of clothes that other people have brought and, once you find something you like, simply swap it for one of your vouchers! This isn't a vintage clothes swap - we have lots of clothes from modern labels such as Per Una, Oasis, Monsoon, etc. It promises to be a really fun evening so please support us.

Secondly we are planning our vintage fashion extravaganza - to be held in the
Market Hall, Abergavenny on the evening of Thursday, 7th October. This is close to our first birthday so we plan to celebrate in style! To make it a success we need lots of help with everything from selling tickets to finding models to greeting people on the night. If you would like to offer your services please try and come along to a meeting on Sunday, 22nd August at 3pm at Vintage Vision where we will let you know what we need and you will (we hope) come up with even more great ideas.

It's incredible to think that we have been open almost a whole year .... thank you so much for all your support .... we couldn't have done it without you! We hope to see you at either the Clothes Swap evening or the Fashion Show meeting ... or preferably both!

If you want any more information then please get in touch - you can either e.mail us at info@vintagevision.org.uk or call us on 0781 816 8955.

POCKETS

Man Alive ! I've heard of short arms and deep pockets but this a little over the top. You could make a small child's outfit from the pockets alone.

FLOWER POWER

003, originally uploaded by Vintage Vision.

How about this wonderful 60s/70s dress in green with a large brown flower. The hem has definitely been turned up a bit and was probably done in the toilets of some nightclub where your mother couldn't see you. I can remember my mother saying "You can't go out in that, you'll catch your death".

SUMMER IN THE 70s

Me, my husband and son in 1977 enjoying a day in the garden. No wonder we all look in pain sitting on that dreadful sunbed although in my case I don't think those agonising Scholl sandals helped.

SAM CAULFIELD

Lindsey, our Friday volunteer (or girl Friday) achieved a fantastic result when she did some alterations to these two dresses owned by
Sam Caulfield. Here Sam is modelling the finished items.
THANKS LINDSEY.

We had great fun last Friday in Vintage Vision when Lindsey's daughter Emma came in to the shop and did us a mock fashion show. In this quirky pose she looks very Dolly Daydream.

This is the prettiest hat I have ever seen. It is in a subtle pale blue and white and consists of very delicate petals of material.
Anyone want to invite me to a wedding ?

THE RAT PACK

Frank Sinatra and his fellow crooners would be well pleased to be seen wearing these trendy hats.

CRIMPLENE

014

You just had to have a Crimplene dress and jacket when going to any formal occasion in the early 60s and this little number would have been much sought after.

kaftan

013, originally uploaded by Vintage Vision.

Any self-respecting lady of taste would love to be seen wearing this very refined kaftan but don't worry if two of you would like one I am sure we can oblige !

HATS

We have a fantastic display of hats with one to match almost any outfit or occasion.

70s style

Jazzy psychodelic colours were the trend in the 70s and we have two fantastic jumpsuits in Vintage Vison at the moment enough to turn even John Travolta's head.

Blue dress

This unusual 60s/70s maxi dress in blue and white says its a size 16. If this is true I am a size 24 and endeavouring to cut back on the Porky Scratchings !
